Fireworks during the day? We must
be mad, right? Nope, fireworks during the day can
be a surprisingly effective way of adding an extra
dimension to events, and in fact are more common than
you'd think. Look how many major events such as the
Cup Final, for example, open with some pyro action.
You can't just let off any firework though, so in
this section we offer some more advice on the subject.
Any major outdoor event could benefit
from the added noise of fireworks. Here are some examples:
To open a sports event.
To start a corporate event.
To launch a new product or service.
As part of winning celebrations (eg. podium
finish).
To open a fete or similar community event (but
be careful if there are animals and so on present).

Effective use of fireworks during the daytime can
be hard to pull off for amateurs. Many of the most
appropriate types of firework for daytime use are
not available to nonprofessional displayers. If you
want to use fireworks for a big public or corporate
event, or a sports event, we recommend you consider
using a professional display company. Using the professionals
has some key advantages:
Excellent daylight effects such as parachutes
and coloured smoke shells are only available
to professionals.
Daytime effects need a big bore to produce
bright comets and loud noises, so professional
fireworks might be more appropriate.
A professional crew should be able to include
other key effects such as pyrotechnics and flame
balls.
A professional crew will be able to work in
more restricted venues such as stadiums or rooftops.
A professional crew will tidy up afterwards
- a major advantage!

If you want to try a daylight display
yourself, here are some suggestions for your fireworks:
Loud fireworks:
Use fireworks which are loud, because sound
will have more relevance than colour during
the day.
Interesting sounds: Many
fireworks contain crackles, screeches, whistles
and various other sound effects. These work
well in daylight.
Bright colours:
For colour, go for bright pinks and greens.
You might want to avoid more subtle colours
like blue and purple. Silver might not show
up against white clouds, unless it is a very
bright silver.
Here are some more suggestions for you:
Keep the display as short as possible. Daylight
displays might have much less visual impact
so keep them shorter.
If you use confetti and the likes, bear in
mind that someone will have to clear it all
up afterwards.
Beware that smoke might be more of an issue
in daylight. Be careful if using smokey fireworks
such as fountains. The fountains used by professionals
during the day tend to be low smoke or cold
fallout and are not the same as conic fountains.
There is no substitute for some practice and
testing. This will show you which of your fireworks
do work well in daylight.
